Partnership between BioAmber and PTTMCC Biochem for PBS production in Thailand

PTTMC Biochem, a joint venture between PTT PLC and Mitsubishi Chemical has selected BioAmber as exclusive partner for supply of succinic acid for the production of PBS in Thailand.

For recall, succinic acid and 1,4-butanediol are the two intermediate chemicals for the production of PBS, a renewable and biodegradable plastic.

PTTMC will begin construction of its plant in Thailand in 2012. The exact location of the site Bioamber would be close to the PBS plant, the Map Ta Phut in Rayong.

The two plants should be operational by 2014. Bioamber will produce up to 65,000 million tons of succinic acid and 50 000 million of tons thanks to its exclusive technology license acquired with Dupont. PTTMC will help Bioamber to secure the sourcing of biomass (initially from sugar cane and / or tapioca).
