Description :
Polyols are purified aqueous solutions of hydrogenated oligosaccharides, also commonly called “sugar alcohols”.

Physico-chemical properties of sugar alcohols, such as sorbitol and maltitol syrups, ensure functionalities that are very useful in a wide variety of industrial applications as a chemical feedstock and functional ingredients.
Sorbitol is widely used in the production of sorbitan esters (as surfactants) and as a network starter in the production of polyols involved in polyurethane manufacturing (polyurethane foams can be used as an insulation material for building).
Sorbitol can be used in metal complexing and performs particularly well at a high pH.
It can also be used for the stabilisation of liquid enzyme systems.
Another applications of sorbitol are adhesives and glues, in which it acts as a plasticising and humectifying agent.

Their viscosity, plasticising properties, humectancy and non-cariogenicity also make polyols ideal ingredients for cosmetics, toothpaste and pharmaceutical applications.

They replace sugars in food formulations, hence reducing calories and providing a cost-effective alternative to intense sweeteners.
